Lyric baritone, Adam Hirama Wells has established excellence in several styles of music.  Operatically trained,  Wells also frequently performs in song recitals, musical theater, operetta, jazz, and folk.  Passionate about new works, Wells has had the privilege to workshop, preview, and premier works with composers such as Tom Cipullo and Lori Laitman.  They have, also, sung with companies including The Glimmerglass Festival, Rochester Philharmonic, Ohio Light Opera and Brevard Music Center.

A versatile actor, Wells has appeared as every kind of character from the doe-eyed romantic, to the comedic stage animal, to the deadly serious antihero.  Highlights of their many roles include Marcello in Puccini’s classic La bohème, The Lord Chancellor in Gilbert and Sullivan’s Iolanthe, and the title role in Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.  Wells received the 2016 Linda Candler Award for Outstanding Opera Student from the Janiec Opera Company where, in the world premiere of Falling Angel by J. Mark Scearce, they were hailed as a, “standout in the solid cast… a bright-voiced baritone and a poignant, innocent presence as the Young Soldier,” by The Wall Street Journal.  Wells is also a 2020 Grand Concours Vocal Competition finalist, 2019 SC District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Audition, and 2013 winner in classical voice with the National YoungArts Foundation.

In addition to their singing, Wells has often been featured as a dancer, having trained several years in ballet, modern and jazz.  Wells is currently enrolled in the artist diploma program from The University of Colorado Boulder and holds additional degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Oberlin Conservatory.  Wells is a native of Clemson, SC.
